Genesis 28: God Is Here

The promised blessing to Abraham and then to Isaac was now to be passed on to the third generation. It was to go through Jacob, not through Esau (the elder). This was told to Jacob as he prepared to leave home and get away from the hatred of his brother. One night, when he used stones for pillows, he had a dream from God. Upon awaking, he said, “The Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.” This is how Bethel got its name and how Jacob learned about the nature of his God. The fact that God is everywhere is intended to teach us how much He cares—ant that He is reachable.
