Genesis 32: Who Won the Match? Or, "The Prince and the Face of God" (Israel and Peniel)
Hosea (12:3-4) tells us that Jacob prevailed against the angel. But this is surely only because the angelic wrestler allowed it. God won the match, because His servant Jacob came out of it a better man. Jacob won the match because he came out of it as “Israel” (Prince of God). The children of Israel were winners, too, because they learned of it and gained the lessons from a respectful tradition “unto this day.”
