Genesis 50: The Spirit of Forgiveness

I guess that all of us are haunted (at least once in a while) by our own past—some evil that we did comes up again (maybe by reading a meditation!). That can be good, because it can move us to keep on the right path (Philippians 3:1-14). It can be bad, especially if we haven’t really dealt with the past correctly. The sins of the brothers of Joseph came up again after the death of their father. Joseph’s assurances were overshadowed by their guilt feelings. The forgiving brother stands tall once again, reassuring them that he was a true child of God and that they were (still) forgiven, and that God’s will was (still) going to be done. What good a forgiving spirit can do (Nehemiah 9:17; Psalm 86:5)!
