Genesis 26: Wells

The Lord God repeats the promise He made to Abraham, but now it is made to Isaac as he becomes the next patriarch. Water—an ever present need—could be obtained by digging wells, so this new leader cleaned out wells that Abraham had dug which had later been vandalized by the Philistines. To symbolize the lessons he was learning about water—and people—he gave names to the wells: Esek (contention), Sitnah (hatred), Rehoboth (room), and Shebah (oath).
